Course Review for Early
Childhood
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
|
 |
 |
General Information
|
 |
 |
 |
Our Course Review process provides early
childhood professionals with the opportunity to develop and
instruct courses that offer Continuing
Education Units [CEUs]. The
person who develops and instructs the course must have a
professional degree related to their course topic, and at least
five years of field experience. A review of the course
instructor's credentials are part of the NCECP
course review process.
Once a course is submitted to the NCECP
for review, a determination is made within three weeks. Each
course is confidentially reviewed by a minimum of two experienced
early childhood professionals who have professional degrees and
vast experience in the subject area of the course. Background
information on each reviewer and a summary of his or her comments
are provided in the determination letter. Courses are either
approved as is, approved with required modifications, or returned
for major revisions with a suggestion to reapply at a later
date.
CEUs
authorized by the NCECP are recognized by the Massachusetts
Department of Early Education and Care, which
imposes high standards for early care and learning. In deference
to the standards, many other states
recognize CEUs granted by the NCECP.
Applicants seeking CEU authorization for courses instructed
outside of Massachusetts are advised to contact the child care
regulating agency for that state to ensure recognition of the
NCECP’s CEUs.

General Information
|
 |
 |
 |
Approval of courses for CEU
authorization by the NCECP is valid
for twelve months
from the date the course is first instructed. Once the
approval date has expired, courses must go through the review
process again. If the course has been slightly modified,
meaning it has been revised to reflect current practices and
research yet the core content has not been altered, then it can be
submitted as a course renewal. A course renewal takes 15
days to process. If the course has changed significantly,
however, then it must be submitted as a new course for a full
review.
The person who develops and instructs the
course must have a professional
degree related to their course topic,
and at least five years of related field experience.
Authorization to instruct a course for CEUs
requires the instructor to register
with the NCECP.
Please note, there is a $25 annual
instructor registration fee. The
instructor registration is valid for
one year and must be renewed
upon expiration using the standard instructor registration
form. If the instructor re-registers within a three-year
period, his or her original transcripts and work verification will
still be on file and they will only be required to provide
evidence of continued professional development.
